24 Jul 2008 - 13:19RejectedHighway authorityWe can confirm that an inspection of Sutton Dene was undertaken on Wednesday 9 July 2008 however any defects identified were regarded as under our intervention criteria, and as such no action will be taken at present.

I would however like to use this opportunity to inform you that due to financial constraints it is not possible to repair all notified defects to the highway, and it is for that reason that a 'Policy for Defect maintenance to Roads and Pavements' has been agreed upon. In the meantime we will endeavour to monitor the situation with Sutton Dene in accordance with the Council's policy. This states that it is necessary to objectively assess the severity and nature of any defects in order to determine if repairs are necessary. This does not mean that the Council is required to repair every defect of which it is aware, but that it must carry out regular inspections and must have in place a clear maintenance policy. As such order numbers will be raised for the defects where, upon further investigation it has been found that the defect exceeds our intervention criteria.
