Defect definitions:

Highways Defects generally fall into one of the following categories:

Emergency Defects – Defects which are considered to need urgent action are passed on to our contractors to be dealt with as emergencies. We endeavour to visit the site and make safe within 2 hours. In some cases this may involve the provision of cones and warning signs and the repairs being done later.

Normal Defects – Defects which are not emergencies are added to our contractors programme of repairs and we endeavour to deal with these within 2 months, where appropriate.

Complex Defects – Larger or more complex works (such as major resurfacing of roads or pavements) are generally programmed separately. These programmes of works have a long waiting list and schemes may have to wait some years until higher priority works are completed.

Minor Defects – Defects of this nature have been considered as very minor or not a high priority and no further action will be taken.
